Japan or Die is Moving

Japan or Die - Issue #89

We’re Moving

Dear Reader,

Japan or Die is moving from Beehiiv to Substack this week.

*THIS THURSDAY'S NEWSLETTER WILL BE COMING FROM SUBSTACK*

You will now be getting emails from: https://japanordie.substack.com (instead of: https://japanordie.beehiiv.com)

You’ll still receive the same content, sending schedule and current subscription level. You don’t need to do anything, but for the next issue or two, please check your spam or promotions folder if you don’t see it in your inbox.

Adding https://japanordie.substack.com to your contacts will help make sure you don’t miss future editions.

FOR PAID SUBSCRIBERS

If you’re a paid subscriber, exciting news! The Special Edition: Kyoto Guide newsletter will be coming out next week. If you are a free subscriber and are just realizing you need this, click here to upgrade on Substack.

LEGEND: For you, this will be seamless. And you can enjoy the fact that as one of the early Legend Subscribers, you received a lifetime paid subscription. New Legend subscribers will receive most of the same perks, but on an annual basis.

ANNUAL: You are now registered as an annual subscriber on Substack. Lucky for you, your annual paid subscription will now last until sometime in January 2027. So if you signed up last November or December, you’ll get those extra months free! Note: You are not going to automatically be re-subscribed for the following year, but I’m pretty sure Substack will let you know when your subscription has run out, so you will have the option to resubscribe. I hope you do!

MONTHLY: There was no easy way to just have your paid subscription transfer over from Beehiiv to Substack, so I will be cancelling the recurring charge on Beehiiv, and I’ve comped you a “monthly” paid subscription on Substack that lasts until Feb.27th or 28th (See below where I say I’m not super techy). So, you get about 7 weeks worth of paid subscriber benefits. I’m fairly sure that when it runs out, Substack will prompt you and ask if you want to become a paid subscriber. It will be up to you if you want to continue or not. The 7 weeks' worth of paid subscription will be at the very least long enough to receive the special Kyoto Edition (coming next week) and the Tokyo Restaurant Guide, which I’m trying to get out by mid-February.

I am by no means a tech expert, so I humbly ask for your understanding during this switch. If you have any problems, please let me know, and I will do my best to fix them as soon as possible. I am just one human person (with the help of my GF, so really, two human people) trying to navigate a whole new platform.

If, for some reason, you don’t receive the Japan or Die newsletter later this week from Substack (Issue #90) and you’ve checked your spam filters, then please go to substack and re-subscribe at japanordie.substack.com.

We’ve done our best to transfer everyone over, but Substack is still not recognizing about 100 emails, and I may not have time to contact their help desk this week.

Thanks so much for your interest and support of Japan or Die.

All the best,

Algis

PS - I’ve been asked a few times when the Tokyo Restaurant Guide is coming out. My apologies for it taking longer than expected. I was planning on having it ready before Xmas, but due to a health issue, a job change, and having to move (both the newsletter and my physical home), the timeline got pushed back. I’m trying my best to have it ready for you by mid-February. In the meantime, if you are a paid subscriber looking for info immediately, you have access to tons of restaurants, bars, and coffee places in the archives.
