Japan or Die - Issue #9

DisneySea

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. DisneySea ride.

If you are a Disney fan and relish going to the parks, DisneySea may be enough reason in itself to visit Japan. While there are Disneylands and DisneyWorlds in a variety of cities and countries, there is only one DisneySea and that is in Tokyo. Technically it is just outside of Tokyo in Urayasu, Chiba.

Vintage Vending Machine Heaven

I love grabbing a hot can of Boss coffee from a vending machine as I explore Japan. While they are cheaper if you get them at a konbini or supermarket, the convenience and fun factor of vending machines is undeniable, especially when they are all over Japan.

Sagamihara, Japan isn’t on most people’s radar of places to go, and it wasn’t on mine until I found out about a vending machine aficionado who has collected over 100 vintage vending machines that do a lot more than dispense cans of coffee, beer, or soda. These machines dispense everything from hot burgers to hot noodles. Check it out for yourself.

Real-time AI translation in Tokyo’s Shinjuku station

It’s not shocking that Japan would have a real-time AI translator in one of its busiest stations. So far it’s only a test run, but the company that manufactures these hopes to expand into many other arenas including hospitals and sporting events. This video shows how it works.
